Fat Canary

Welcome friends, old and new

"Oh for a bowl of Fat Canary, rich Palermo, sparkling sherry."

- John Lyly

When the ships sailed from the Old World to the New, they stopped in the Canary Islands for supplies. One of the important provisions brought aboard was wine, referred to as “Canary.” Our restaurant is named after a reference in the Colonial Era playwright John Lyly's poem.

Located in the heart of Colonial Williamsburg, Fat Canary has received the AAA Four Diamond award each year since opening in 2003.

We are open for dinner service at 5pm Wednesday through Sunday. Reservations are recommended for our main dining room and bar.

Reservations may be made at Opentable.com or by calling the restaurant at 757-229-3333. A host is available Wednesday through Sunday starting at noon.

Downstairs at Fat Canary is an in-person check-in for our waitlist for both the dining room and bar. A host will be available starting at 4:30 to take names in-person for our first seating that begin at 5pm.

Our Facebook page will keep up to date postings on any closings that may occur.  We look forward to seeing you and we thank you for your patronage!

"It is hard to find a better restaurant in the Williamsburg area. For a truly fine dinner this is an excellent choice. The menu is varied, and the service is always outstanding. We go there for special occasions and have never been disappointed."

"Hands down amazing! Food was amazing and the customer experience is hands down the best! We are already planning another trip to Williamsburg just to come back and eat here!"

"

We have been to Williamsburg many times. However, our first visit to Fat Canary. Glad we didn't miss it!! The menu, service and ambiance was outstanding. I like the menu as it alters to people for a full meal or a lighter one. Definitely should not miss this dining establishment."

"Consistently a fabulous experience. Delicious food, knowledgeable, pleasant staff, just need to remember to make reservations as soon as Open Table allows!"
